Learning through the Arts: A Research Journal on Arts Integration in Schools and Communities At the 2004 ArtsBridge America Conference in Salt Lake City, there was widespread support for the creation of an academic journal in which faculty associated with ArtsBridge programs across the nation might publish articles concerning the scholarly aspects of their work. Through the University of California, the Journal for Learning through the Arts will be published on-line through the California Digital Library. Established at the University of California, Irvine in November of 2001, the Center for Learning through the Arts, formally the da Vinci Research Center, builds on the expertise and combined knowledge of faculty in the Arts disciplines, Education, Social Ecology, and Medicine to study the nexus of relationships between arts education, aspects of cognitive and social development, and public policy information. The center fosters interdisciplinary studies that involve appropriate faculty from a range of disciplines. The journal invites articles from researchers, university faculty, teaching artists, and school district personnel who have explored the link between learning and the arts through empirical research or through deliberate and disciplined integration of the arts (1) across arts disciplines, (2) with other academic content areas, and/or (3) into community-based educational programs.
